About
Doug & Leslie
If you’re like most of our readers you’re working tirelessly to be connected to your spouse, to be supportive, encouraging, affirming & empowering.
But there is something in the way, isn’t there?
Life just keeps happening. Work, kids, chores. And again… work, kids, chores. Add getting the kids to practice and games, trips to the dentist, PTA meetings, and last but not least, church.
The whirlwind can have a way with us, if we let it, to separate us from the people we love most.

We’ve been there too!
Doug has been a bi-vocational pastor for 25 years, which means that he has had two full-time jobs for all his married life. He teaches high school as his other vocation, including everything that goes with it; teaches, leads extracurricular activities, and teacher committees.
When Leslie decided to return to school for a master’s degree in counseling, they had three grade-school-aged girls and one toddling daughter, and a growing church. God was going to have to work out all the technical, logistical, and tactical stuff.
Life seemed impossible. But they knew that they were called to be good spouses, parents, and ministry partners. And when God calls, He equips. God taught them to love one day at a time because He was loving and equipping them to do amazing things.
God taught them to communicate with love and respect, and He led them to lead and submit in a beautiful dance that only comes though Him showing them that this was the greatest gift they could shower on their spouse.
As they were meeting those challenges head on, some days, they felt like giving up. And then there were those days when they just didn’t even want to show up. But in those times, God provided all that they needed to keep going. To keep being Jesus to each other as they love and are being loved.

When I decided to return to school for a master’s degree in counseling, we had three grade-school-aged girls and one toddling daughter, and a growing church. God was going to have to work out all the technical, logistical, and tactical stuff.
Life seemed impossible. But I knew that I was called to be a wife, mom, and a counselor. And when God calls, He equips. God taught me to love one day at a time because He was loving me.
He taught me to communicate with respect, and (yes, I’ll say the dreaded word) He led me to submit, showing me that this was the greatest gift I could shower on my husband (that’s right, sex isn’t the greatest gift, but it’s good too).
I was meeting those challenges head on. Some days, I felt like crying. Other days, I felt like giving up. And then there were those days when I just didn’t even want to show up. But in those times, God provided all that I needed to keep going. To keep being Jesus to those whom I loved and that loved me.
